Keynote Speaker: Isabella Melara

Picture of girl in wheelchair wearing Mardis Gras Beads and a purple shirt.

We are thrilled to welcome Isabella Melara, a 19-year-old high school senior who embodies the power of accessible technology. Living with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Isabella utilizes eye-gaze technology not just to communicate, but to thrive independently.

Describing herself as “fun, creative, sassy, and witty,” Isabella proves that physical limitations do not define intelligence or potential. She received her first eye-gaze device at 10 years old and has since mastered it to navigate social media, manage her own correspondence, and succeed in her schoolwork.

Beyond the classroom, Isabella is a budding entrepreneur and graphic designer. She uses her device to create professional flyers for local businesses (including S&B Fireworks and Dough Nguyener’s Bakery) and even writes letters to children from Santa. Join us to hear Isabella’s unique perspective on how technology helps her explore, learn, and connect with the world.
